Our Learning Journey this Week wb: 30.4.18

We welcomed the children back to school this week for their final half term in Early Years! This week, we have begun our new topic for the next half term - 'Adventure', where we will be taking journeys into space, meeting pirates, exploring dinosaurs and much more!

To begin this exciting topic, we read a new story about a journey to the moon, 'Whatever Next!' The children loved using their imagination to find the different things they could use to take their own trip to the moon! Why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:

In Literacy, we read the story together and the children learned new signs and actions to help them to retell, sequence and re-enact the story. We were very excited to receive a reading challenge from Baby Bear and the children used their phonic knowledge to decode lots of new words to help them to learn our key vocabulary for the topic!

We were very lucky to be invited to join Baby Bear on the moon and so wrote a list of all of the things we would need to take, before packing our bags! At home, why not write about your favourite part of the story and share it with your family?

In Maths, we have been investigating teen numbers and practising to count them in the correct order both forwards and backwards! The children have also be revisiting some of their learning from last term, including addition and subtraction - make sure to keep practising the different strategies you have learned!

Some children have been trying to use their knowledge of counting in twos to solve problems! They have been helping Baby Bear to pair up the right number of socks for his journey to the moon!

This week, we have continued our learning about our topic of 'Friends'. We have been reflecting on our learning about friends from last week and thinking of ways that we can reconcile if things go wrong. We listened to Scripture from the Bible and learned how Jesus tells us to 'love one another'. We have been thinking about what this means to us and how we can show others how we love and care for them.

The children have been learning a beautiful hymn - why not sing along to it at home?

This week's challenge:

Whatever Next!

This week, we had a great journey to the moon with Baby Bear! For your challenge, we would like you to think of and write or draw about your own adventure into space! Perhaps you will go to the moon and find something that Baby Bear couldn't see, or maybe you will take a visit to Mars or Saturn? I wonder how you will get there.....?

We can't wait to read all about your adventures! We could even turn them into books and pop them in our library!

Don't forget to practise reading every day!
