Our Learning Journey this Week wb: 21.5.18
This week, the children have really enjoyed their new story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ This is a very popular story in Early Years and the children have loved joining in with the phrases and rhythm of the story! Why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:
In Literacy, we have been reading and re-telling the story together, using signs, role-play and props to support us. We made story maps and the children have been practising to perform their stories, using a loud clear voice and expression, to make their story-telling sound really exciting! We went outside to act out the story, stepping through the thick, oozy mud and swirling, whirling snow storm! The children were excited to feel inside our sensory boxes to help them to describe the different settings. They then used their phonic knowledge to write the story, using the new vocabulary that we had learned to describe the areas on our bear hunt!
In Maths this week, we have been revisiting our learning on subtraction. We have been looking at a range of different strategies that we can use to solve subtraction problems such as using objects, fingers and counting back. At home, why not practise counting back from 20 and as an extra challenge, see if you can order numerals from 20 to zero!
In R.E., we have started a new Holy topic of ‘Friends’. We have been thinking about who our friends are, why they are our friends and what makes them special. We made paintings and friendship bracelets for our friends and reflected upon how we can be a good friend towards others.
Why not sing along and teach your family how to be a good friend?
Don't forget to send us pictures and comments of your child completing their weekly challenge! Please send to us using the following email address for your child's class:
This week's challenge:
This week, we would like you to tell us about something special you have enjoyed doing over the half term. Maybe you are doing something exciting over the bank holiday? Maybe you have a special family celebration?
Please encourage the children to choose their own way to record their special event. Perhaps they would like to make a video, take a photographs, draw a picture or write all about it!
We can’t wait to hear all about your half-term holiday!
Don't forget to practise reading every day!
Have a safe and restful break and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 4th June 2018.
