Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Find out all about our topics, special events, learning and amazing achievements over the last week!

Our Learning Journey this Week wb: 30.4.18

This week, the children were very excited to continue our topic of ‘In the Woods’ and read a brand new story, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. The children loved hearing this traditional tale and were eager to join in with changing their voices to sound like the different characters! Why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:

In Literacy, we read the story together and the children learned new signs and actions to help them to retell, sequence and re-enact the story. The children have enjoyed reading this story and learning new language to use in their play.

We were very excited to receive a challenge from the three bears, to write a list of all the ingredients we would need to make a new bowl of porridge! The children learned about the features of a list and used their phonics skills to write them. At home, why not ask your child to help write a shopping list that you can take with you when you go food shopping?

In Maths this week, we have continued  learning about time. We have been thinking about how we measure time, such as the days of the week and the months of the year, as well as finding different ways to measure short periods of time.

We have also been investigating clocks, learning how they can help us tell the time of the day and making our own watches to wear!

During the month of May, we will be worshipping Our Lady, Mary. This week, we watched a wonderful assembly introducing us to the holy month of May, where we praised Mother Mary together. In class, we have been listening to Bible stories about Mary and reciting the Hail Mary prayer. We will be sharing this prayer together everyday in May. At home, why not share it with your family? The children have made beautiful flower garlands to offer to Our Lady and have written their own prayers.

This week's challenge:

It’s not a box!

To encourage the children to get creative and solve problems at home, this week, we would like to challenge you to turn a box into your very own invention. You could use any recycled materials such as a cereal or tissue box, or even a large cardboard box if you have any at home! Perhaps you could make a rocket, a train or even a laptop – let  imagination take the lead! Encourage your child to talk about what they are going to do and why.

Please make a comment on the techniques and resources your child tried to use and send it to us with a photo.

We look forward to hearing all about your inventions!

Don't forget to practise reading every day!
