Little Red Riding Hood

Find out all about our topics, special events, learning and amazing acheivements over the last week!

We welcomed the children back to school on Monday after a well-deserved Easter break. We are glad to see the children had a restful holiday and are back at school ready to learn!

Our Learning Journey this Week

This week, the children were very excited to find a special basket in their classroom with our new book for the week, 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The children were very excited by this story and many of them talked about a time they had read it at home. Why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:

In Literacy, we used signs, actions and story maps to help us to retell, sequence and re-enact the story. The children have enjoyed reading this story and learning new language to use in their play.

In Maths, we have revisited our learning about money. We have continued to practise recognising and naming the different coins and the children enjoyed talking about and acting out their own experiences in our pretend shop. We have been sorting the coins and using them to practise counting, adding two amounts together and solving number problems. We have even been using the coins to count in twos!

This week, we have started a new topic of 'Good News' in R.E. The children have enjoyed talking about their own good news and thinking about ways to share their news with others. We have talked about why we share good news and thought about how this makes ourselves and others feel.

This week's challenge:

We want to know your good news!

As we have been talking about good news in R.E. this week, please ask your child to talk about something special that they would like to share with their class. This can be something that has happened at home, at school or at a family event. Please encourage your child to create a poster or picture of their good news to share with their friends - maybe they could write a sentence about their news and why it is special to them, so that everyone can celebrate with them.

Don't forget to practise reading every day!
