Our Learning Journey this week!

EYFS have had lots of fun continuing our ‘Superheroes’ topic for learning. This week, we read the story ‘Super worm’. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this story – why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:

In literacy, we used signs, actions and story maps to help us to retell and re-enact the story. We have also been practising to use our phonics skills to write speech bubbles, write a list of the insects we saved from ‘Wizard Lizard’ and write our own ideas for what we would turn into if we had Super Worm’s super powers!

In maths, we have been learning how to share out different amounts equally. We have learnt some new words and signs to help us to remember them: share, fair, equal. The children had a lovely tea party with their friends and were solving problems by making sure that everyone had the same, equal amount of party food!

In R.E., we have been continuing with our topic of ‘Growing.’ We have talked about things that grow and some of the children have made their own prayers to thank God for giving us the gift of new life. We were very lucky to meet some baby chicks that had recently hatched from their eggs! We have been learning about Lent and talked about the Lenten promises that we have made.

Culture Week

This week, the whole school have been celebrating different cultures by taking part in lots of different activities. We have enjoyed performances from a steel band and some wonderful Irish dancing, as well as trying different traditional meals at lunch time! In our classrooms, we have been learning about the cultures of Africa, India and Australia. The children have learned about the different countries and how they might be different from the country that we live in. We have tasted different foods, listened to traditional music, made up dances and created our own paintings, flags and models to represent the countries that we have been learning about.  The children enjoyed coming into school with their own cultural dress on Friday and enjoyed sharing their own experience of their culture with their friends.
