Our Learning Journey this week 19.3.18
This week, we began a new topic of ‘The Gruffalo’. This is a familiar story to many of the children and they have been really excited to join in with telling the story and acting it out with their friends! Why not take this book out from the library and enjoy it together as a bedtime story? A link for the story can be found below:
In literacy, we used signs, actions and story maps to help us to retell and re-enact the story. We have been talking about the story and who are favourite characters are and why. We discussed our favourite parts of the story and sequenced key events from the beginning, middle and end. We have also been practising to use our phonics skills to write character descriptions and create ‘Wanted’ posters for the Gruffalo on the loose in our classrooms! Can you help us to find him?
In maths, we have been investigating weight and learnt lots of new language to talk about the weight of different objects: light, lighter, lightest, heavy, heavier, heaviest. We have been comparing the weights of different objects and trying to order them by weight. At home, you could bake some cupcakes and show the children how we use weight in our everyday lives, by weighing out the different ingredients together.
In R.E., we have been continuing with our topic of ‘Growing.’ The children have been thinking about how they can grow to be kind, helpful and caring like Jesus and made some very thoughtful suggestions, such as helping their friends, being kind to others and caring for their classroom.
Don't forget to send us pictures and comments of your child completing their weekly challenge! Please send to us at the following email addresses for your child's class:
This week's challenge:
Take a walk in the woods, go to the park or go into your back garden to investigate nature. What can you see, hear and smell? What signs of growing can you see around you? Take a picture of new life and send it to us! Can you describe all of the things you saw?
